Google is experimenting with cars that drive themselves

While Virgin Galactic Richard Branson is getting closer to outer space, Google is adhering to surfaces with its most recent experiment. The search giant is looking for new ways to help people who use technology--robotic cars.

Indeed Google is self-proclaimed aiming to reduce road accidents, saving time and Slash carbon emissions. The problem is serious.According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.2 million lives are lost each year in road accidents. Google believes that it has the potential to reduce that number in half and proposes to change the way we use cars.

Google has developed a technology that manages car after saving the life, the ultimate aim is to create a "highway trains of tomorrow" that reduce energy consumption and to allow vehicles to carry more people on the main roads it Google thinks could also help people make better use of an average of 52 minutes spent travelling to and from work every day.

Robotic cars in action

Google has already been revved to experiment.Operated by trained operators, its automated cars recently ruled by Google mountain view, Calif, their Santa Monica Office campus and Hollywood Boulevard. These robotic cars even reduced Lombard Street, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, found the Pacific Coast Highway and make all the way around Lake Tahoe. Google has logged more than 140,000 miles in his experiment robotics research.

Our automated cars use video cameras, radar sensors and laser range search to "see" other traffic, as well as the detailed maps--which we collect using manually-operated vehicles--to navigate the road ahead, "Sebastian Thrun refined software engineer on the Google wrote in the blog of the company." This is all possible data centers Google can handle huge amounts of information gathered from our cars, if a comparison in the forest. "

To develop technologies robot-car Google tapped some of the top DARPA challenge engineers that were behind a series of automated car races, organized by the Government of the United States. These engineers include Chris Urmson, Mike Montemerlo and Anthony Levandowski. their work is display in the National Museum of American history.

Advertising turnover

Often with many things Google advertising is in the heart of the matter.Google is planning a complex strategy for advertising of cars?Sort of the 22nd century, with the spinning of the vehicle-wrapping machines ever?, Greg Sterling, principal analyst at Sterling market intelligence, I don't think this is the main purpose.

"I think it's a Google investing in and developing technology that considers it necessary is considerable promise," said Sterling. "If it must be able to be placed on the market and is widely used, then there will be opportunities for advertising, but I am sure that Google is thinking in these terms--at least not now. This is an early stage. "

In fact for now, Google seems to focus on safety. Thrun wrote that cars have never unmanned. always trained safety driver at the wheel, which is able to absorb. Google also is passenger seat to monitor software.

"We I've always been optimistic about the possibility of advance technologies and society we are pushed as difficult to improve the skills of self-driving cars outside, where they are today," Thrun writes. "This project is in an experimental stage, it provides akcentirame what transport might look in the future, thanks to the advanced computer science, and that the future is very exciting. "
